If you have difficulty cutting accurately or have problems with your hands, purchasing an Accuquilt cutting machine can transform your quilting process. The best thing about Accuquilt is you can cut 6 layers of quilting cotton fabric at a time which is a big timesaver. We’re looking at all things Accuquilt today.
How Accuquilt Can Transform your Quilting Process
I had been quilting for many years before I purchased my Accuquilt. An injury to a tendon in my cutting hand was the reason I finally bit the bullet, and it was a smart decision.
An Accuquilt machine will transform your quilting process in two ways:
- Save time cutting because it is faster
- No need to recut fabric because of miscuts
Accuquilt GO Machines
Accuquilt GO cutting machines hit the market around 2008. The original Accuquilt GO crank model is still available today.
In addition to the cutting machine, you will need Accuquilt dies to cut your pieces. There are over 200 dies on the market today. There are dies for: applique shapes, English Paper Piecing hexagons, project dies like Storm at Sea, and even strip dies. Please note that only Accuquilt dies fit in Accuquilt machines.
Go! Me
The GO! Me is the smallest Accuquilt machine and is a crank model. It has a 6” cutting width. While the lower price point is helpful to many just getting started in Accuquilt, the limited cutting size is a deterrent in my opinion. The GO! Me is sold in a starter set and MSRP is US$179.99.
Accuquilt GO!
The Accuquilt GO! is where it all started all those years ago. The Accuquilt GO! is also a crank model. The crank is not hard to turn on either of these models, so don’t let that hold you back. The Accuquilt GO! has a 10” cutting width. You can also use the smaller dies meant for the GO Me with your Accuquilt GO!. In addition, you could also use longer dies such as 10” x 24” in your Accuquilt GO!. The Accuquilt GO! is sold in a starter set and MSRP is US$439.99.
Accuquilt GO! Big Electric
The Accuquilt GO! Big is an electric cutter. It does a fabulous job, but is more expensive. The Accuquilt GO! Big has a 14” cutting width. The Accuquilt GO! Big can accommodate all of the dies for the two machines above plus much more. The Accuquilt GO! Big is sold in a starter set and MSRP is US$799.99.
Accuquilt Dies
As mentioned above, there are Accuquilt dies available for hundreds of projects.
There are also Accuquilt Qubes which are die sets that create blocks of a certain size. Accuquilt Qubes are available in the following sizes: 4”, 5”, 6”, 8”, 9”, 10”, 12”, and 16” blocks. There are also supplementary sets that go with the Qubes: Corners and Angles.
This is an example of a Qube sets:
As you can see, Accuquilt can be a slippery slope and you can end up with quite a collection of dies before you know it.
Where to Purchase an Accuquilt GO!
You can purchase all Accuquilt products from accuquilt.com. Many quilt stores also carry the machines and dies, so don’t forget to support your local shops. For my Canadian friends, please note that there is no longer a Canadian warehouse for Accuquilt since they left Canada prior to Covid.
As an alternative, a lot of people get started with Accuquilt and decide it isn’t for them. Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji and Craig’s List frequently have Accuquilt listings for a fraction of MSRP. That being said, please be cautious and make sure you meet someone in a safe place.
My Final Thoughts
I hope you found value in How Accuquilt Can Transform your Quilting Process. Purchasing an Accuquilt and dies will make your quilting process much faster because the cuts are accurate and you will not need to recut fabric. That being said, please review all of the expenses prior to investing in an Accuquilt cutter and dies.
