I know that in the modern world we live in, simply opening a browser window, doing a little research, and then deciding on which product to buy is an everyday event in many of our lives. However, when buying a sewing machine, let me show you why buying from a dealer is your best choice. Your sewing machine dealer will be an important person in your life.
Buying a Sewing Machine – Why Buying from a Dealer is Your Best Choice
I’m not going to beat around the bush here, unless you don’t have an alternative, buy your sewing machine from a dealer. PERIOD. NO EXCEPTIONS
Now I realize that not everyone lives where a sewing machine dealer is close by. I will also say, close by doesn’t need to be 10 minutes away. If you have the means to drive to a dealer, driving an hour or more will be better than buying online.
If you do not have a sewing machine dealer within driving distance, I highly suggest that you support an online sewing machine dealer instead. You can easily find them by doing a simple Google search. Many brick and mortar dealers have an online presence too where you can purchase directly from them.
The Benefits
There are three massive benefits to purchasing your machine from a sewing machine dealer.
- They will teach you how to use your machine, and if you need help in the future, they will be there to help you.
- They will repair your machine if, and when, it needs it. And if you think that your machine won’t need to be repaired, you are probably wrong.
- This is really the big one. You can often purchase machines that have been used as a trade-in when a customer has upgraded their machine. These machines have been cleaned and checked over by the mechanic, and often come with a warranty. But the best part is, these machines are often priced substantially below MSRP. As a result, you get way more bang for your buck.
Buying from Amazon or a Big Box Store
As you can see, these are very compelling reasons to buy from a sewing machine dealer.
If you can’t figure out how to use your machine, nobody at Amazon or the Big Box Store you purchased from can help you.
I also know that many sewing machine dealers will not service machines bought from a Big Box Store or Amazon. This is because many of those machines are lower quality, full of plastic parts and not considered worth fixing. There are a multitude of these machines going to landfill. Do you want your first machine to end up in landfill because you made a poor choice? I didn’t think so.
Do the Right Thing – Buy from a Dealer
As I said, if you don’t have a local dealer, please buy from an online dealer. Buying on Amazon is putting more money in Jeff Bezos’ pocket that he doesn’t need. Buying from a Big Box Store means no support.
But Lynda…
You may be thinking, hey I’m smart, I can figure it out on my own. That’s great, but not all machines come with comprehensive manuals, and not all subjects can be found on YouTube.
In conclusion, please buy from and support your local sewing machine dealer. They will be there for you when you need them the most.
