On December 5, both the 2025 PANTONE and KONA Colours of the Year were announced and I’m loving them both. Let’s talk about Mocha Mouse and Nocturne.
2025 Colours of the Year: Nocturne and Mocha Mousse
PANTONE Colour of the Year – Mocha Mousse

I have seen very mixed reviews of this pretty brown shade. Many love it and some have had less favourable things to call it (I don’t think I need to get into the particulars here).
PANTONE refers to Mocha Mousse as “a warming, brown hue imbued with richness, capturing a global mood of connection, comfort and harmony.”
This shade is so versatile. Because it is a medium shade and not a light or dark shade, I think the possibilities are endless. Pair it with grey, white, black etc. for a neutral look. Pair it with pink, violet, or blue for a more vibrant look. This shade of brown will work well in many quilts.
KONA Colour of the Year – Nocturne

I’m loving this deep purple shade for 2025, Nocturne. It’s a stunning purple which can be paired with so many colours, think pink, white, black, blue-red, grey for a nice neutral and so much more.
How About a Twist?
When I saw these beautiful Colours of the Year I immediately thought, what if I used them together in the same quilt. The contrast is going to be stunning. To do this, I first ascertained what is the closest KONA colour to Mocha Mousse. The closest I could get was KONA 486 Cobblestone. This was by using the colours of my MacBook Air monitor which was the best I could do. As a result, I may be way off, but for my example, it’s close enough.

I’m loving this quilt. These two colours together create a regal quilt in this Hunter’s Star design. I created this quilt in PreQuilt quilt design app. Check them out to design your own quilts. They are way less costly than other design programs on the market.
My Final Thoughts
I hope this gives you food for thought as we move into 2025. Will you use these colours in your quilts? I am not a big fan of any shade of brown, but Mocha Mousse is wearing off on me.
